Agnistambhasana

Firelog Pose

Today I’ll tell you about a very useful asana Agnistambhasana or Firelog Pose 🪵🔥. This asana is ideal for opening the hips, while giving an intense deep stretch to the outer par of the thigh) and especially the piriformis muscle, which is often the cause of sciatic pain. Therefore it is highly recommended for the prevention and relief of sciatic nerve problems. Agnistambhasana also neutralizes the effects of prolonged sitting at the workplace, due to which the hip muscles become stiff and inflexible. It also improves posture and is efficient for everyone, not only for those who sits on the chair all the workday long, but also for athletes (cyclists and runners) relieving tension in the hips. The asana facilitates menstruation related problems, helps regulate hormonal levels, and relieve physical and mental stress 🪷. Good luck, right efforts and concentration in your practice! ☀️

Agnistambhasana activates the lower or basic chakras: Muladhara and Svadhisthana, which are associated with a feeling of stability, security and grounding. Its lateral variations ignite the 🔥of Nabhi chakra (Samana prana vayu🌀) in the navel area and facilitates digestion, while accelerating metabolism. Notice: the legs lie in a shape of a regular triangle 🔻in the form of a triangular stand, one exactly above the other! Before performing the asana, it is important to stretch a bit. You can start in easy sitting variation with one leg extended and the other leg bent at the knee, or even just sitting on a chair🪑 placing one foot on the floor with the other bent at the knee.

In initial variation this pose can be done with something under the upper knee, like a yoga-brick or with other props (for example rolled blanket in between).
